Granite Climbing in Dali!
Development of new rock granite climbing routes in Dali is proceeding at a blistering rates.Last month, we finally began putting up new routes in the ShiMenGuan gorge in Yangbi, less than one hour from Dali! The gorge is more than 1km long and 100-150m, consisting entirely of hard granite (so hard that we burned through drill bits at the rate of 1-2 per day!). We succeded in bolting 11 quality sport climbinfg routes (grades 5.10a - 5.12d) and some of the slabby faces on the outside of the gorge, and just in that area, there is potential for another 50 routes are so.
If you include the gorge itself, there is easily potential for hundreds of quality routes, including traditional and multi-pitch lines. There are also dozens of massive boulders, and it is expected that the area will also become one of China's bouldering meccas when word spreads of its existence. Admission to the scenic park (that encloses all of the rock climbing areas) is 10RMB, and there are a handful of guesthouses within 10 minutes walk from the crag. Check it out!

Meanwhile, we established two more lines at our Shuanglang crag (5.9 and 5.10b), bringing the total there to 17, and the Dali total to 36. Over the next couple years, we hope to bring this to 100!
